The BOBL Cold Calling Programme
Better Outbound
Builds Learning.
Every worthwhile conversation should teach us something. We create curiosity, listen to what the market tells us and use what we learn to improve the next conversation.
Create curiosity · Discover something new · Earn the next conversation
Conversation signal
01 · Resistance
“Not interested.”
02 · Trust
“I know I’m an interruption.”
03 · Relevance
“That problem sounds familiar.”
04 · Curiosity
“What have you discovered?”
05 · Learning
“Here’s what is actually happening.”
06 · Next step
“Let’s continue this properly.”
The BOBL Code
Cold calling has been taught backwards.
“Cold calling isn’t about talking. It’s about creating curiosity, listening for what matters and earning the right to continue.”
Most cold-call training concentrates on what you want to say. BOBL starts with what you need to learn.
Your job is not to force a meeting from every conversation. Your job is to create enough curiosity for the prospect to stay engaged and to discover something you did not know before the call began.
That information makes your follow-up more intelligent, more relevant and more difficult to ignore.
The first call creates the next one.
- 01
Create curiosity
Give the prospect a reason to stop, think and remain in the conversation.
- 02
Discover what matters
Listen for information, context, changes, problems and priorities that were not available before the call.
- 03
Earn the right to continue
Use what you learn to create a relevant meeting, follow-up or future conversation.
Why BOBL exists
BOBL means Better Outbound Builds Learning. Every worthwhile conversation should teach us something. We create curiosity, listen to what the market tells us and use what we learn to improve the next conversation.
Sometimes that conversation creates a meeting. Sometimes it reveals the right person, a better time, a relevant follow-up or that the opportunity is not a fit. Each clear outcome makes outbound better informed and less cold, and better informed outbound produces better conversations, follow-up, meetings and pipeline.
What is going wrong
- Too many sellers hide behind automation.
- Activity is recorded, but meaningful conversations are not happening.
- When sellers do call, they sound scripted or lead with their product.
- Prospects recognise the sales pattern and protect themselves.
- Valuable accounts are abandoned because they were not ready on the first day somebody called.
The BOBL alternative
- 01Understand the interruption.
- 02Establish enough trust to continue.
- 03Create relevance and curiosity.
- 04Listen for what is true.
- 05Discover something useful.
- 06Choose the appropriate next action.
- 07Follow up with purpose.
Better first conversations
Openings that reduce resistance and give the prospect a genuine reason to keep listening.
Better market intelligence
You learn how your market describes its own problems, priorities and timing, in its own words.
Better follow-up and pipeline
Every completed conversation leaves a relevant, specific reason for the next contact.
The problem
The meeting-only mindset is costing you more than meetings
Most people approach a cold call with one measure of success: did I book the meeting?
That creates pressure. The caller rushes, pitches too early, talks too much and tries to force a result before understanding the prospect.
When the prospect does not book, the entire conversation is treated as a failure, even if they revealed who owns the problem, when the timing will change, what language matters or why the current approach is not working.
That information is not a consolation prize. It is the intelligence from which relevant follow-up and reliable pipeline are built.
Pressure creates resistance
When I sound as though I need an immediate result, the prospect protects themselves.
Pitching prevents discovery
When I spend the call delivering information, I learn very little about the account.
Poor follow-up keeps every call cold
When I fail to capture context and timing, the next approach begins as another interruption.
A call without an immediate meeting is not necessarily a failed call.
A call that creates no curiosity, no learning and no clear next action is.
The method
The two jobs of the first conversation
Create curiosity
I give the prospect a reason to think, question or explore, without trying to explain the entire solution during an unexpected call.
Learn something new
I discover something I did not know two minutes ago: the right person, the real problem, the prospect’s language, the timing, the priority or what should happen next.
Curiosity + new information = the right next step
Sometimes the right next step is a meeting.
Sometimes it is a referral, a timed follow-up, a better-informed conversation with another stakeholder, a nurture path or a decision to stop pursuing the account.
The purpose is not to avoid asking for meetings. It is to earn the appropriate next step rather than forcing the same outcome onto every prospect.
The transformation
What changes when you understand the code
You stop relying on enthusiasm, pressure and memorised scripts. You begin reading the conversation and responding deliberately.
Before
- I sound like every other salesperson.
- I introduce my company and product too early.
- I trigger resistance in the first few seconds.
- I judge every call as meeting or failure.
- I fill silence because I am uncomfortable.
- I write vague notes such as “call back later”.
- I start from cold every time.
After
- I lower resistance before explaining why I called.
- I use tone, pacing and language deliberately.
- I create curiosity around a relevant problem.
- I ask questions that reveal useful information.
- I recognise when a meeting has been earned.
- I leave every completed conversation with clarity.
- I follow up using the prospect’s context, language and timing.
The goal is not to say more.
The goal is to make the conversation move.

A complete system, not another collection of scripts
Across ten progressive modules, I will show you how to understand the purpose of the call, reduce resistance, establish trust, build the opening, create curiosity, handle gatekeepers, open discovery, secure the right next step and turn first conversations into disciplined follow-up.
You will not simply copy a script. You will learn why the language works, how the delivery changes the response and how to build the method for your own market.
Understand the behaviour
Learn what creates resistance and what allows trust and curiosity to develop.
Build your conversation
Build your opener, problem statement, breakthrough and appropriate next step.
Practise the delivery
Use structured exercises, role-plays, checklists and live repetitions until the method becomes natural.
Your next call can be more than
another attempt.
Learn how to create curiosity, uncover something useful and earn the right next conversation.
